Frequently asked questions
  • I have an everdure natural gas heater Commander, The pilot lamp stays on upto 3 inches continously when the heater is on. I have cleaned the Fluff from the base of the heater but still does not help.
Hi, that is normal for a gas heater.  It is the pilot light, this needs to be on to keep the thermocouple hot.
  • Can I fit my old BBQ with new stainless steel plate, grill's and burners?
Yes you can, most BBQ's follow a standard size so you can buy these products off the shelf.
  • Can I get a stainless steel hotplate for my BBQ custom made?
Yes you can, we carry a large range of standard size hotplates in stock most of the time, if you require a odd size we can get it made for you.
  • Hi, I am looking for a natural gas conversion kit for my Jackaroo 4 burner BBQ. You state "Not recommended for use on Jackeroo BBQ's" on the conversion kit on your site. What is the reason for this? Will it not work at all, or is there a lot fiddling to make it work? Thanks, Jon
Natural Gas is softer and not as volatile as LPG so we have found you cant get enough heat out of the BBQ after conversion.
  • How do I clean the plates on my wonderful BBQ purchased at Joe's four years ago? They are so bad they have rusted. Also, how do I maintain them so that they don't rust.
Hi, the problem with un coated cast iron is it will rust regardless of what you do, the best way to care for cast iron is to use the BBQ, clean off the excess food and leave the oils on the plates and grill's for next time, when you want to use it again heat up the BBQ and scrap the plate and grill down and use.

What you can do is rub the plate and grill down with a wire brush and re oil.

Vitreous enamel coated plates and grill's are also available, they have a vitreous enamel coating over the cast iron which protects from rust and also makes cleaning a little easier.  Stainless steel is another option which can be a little expensive first up but will last a lifetime.
  • How do i convert a wood outdoor bbq into a gas bbq?
Hi, there is a few different ways to do it,
1, Buy a built in BBQ and it will slot into the cut out
2, Buy a slide in kit which just has a small frame which holds the burners and knobs in place, this slides in where the fire was using the original plate.
  • How to convert jackeroo bbq to natural gas
We do not recommend converting Jackaroo to natural gas as you will loose too much performance.  When converting to natural gas you can loose up to 30% of the heat.
  • I have a LPG patio heater, is it possible to convert this to natural gas?
Hi, no I'm sorry its not, Natural Gas patio heaters have to be bolted to the floor.
  • I have a old BBQ on bottled gas, can I convert it to natural gas?
Yes you can, natural gas conversion kits are available for most BBQ's.  The standard kits on this site will convert 80% of BBQ's, if your BBQ has a different jet we can drill it our for you.
  • I have installed a natural gas outlet for my BBQ on my patio (new home), but have heard/read that LPG provides higher temperatures for cooking. Is this correct?
Hi, yes that is correct.  LPG is more volatile than natural gas and has a higher pressure.  If you have a good BBQ like a Beefeater or Gasmate Specialist they have more than enough power to compensate.
Cheaper BBQs with low output burners we do not recommend converting to natural gas.
